Are you actually qualified to teach an online course?

Spoiler alert! Yes, you are. But let’s be honest, we need to go much deeper into

*How do you know you’re qualified?

*What topics are best for success?

*Why positioning yourself as the expert you are is essential?

Without a doubt, we know that over the past two years, the demand for online courses has skyrocketed. The market is expected to reach over 20 billion by 2025. Everyone wants a slice of that pie, and developing an online course or workshop is such a game-changer.

We live in the age of information people can’t get enough of it. The world is craving to hear what you have to say.

In my program Creation to Launch, when I’m teaching students, the biggest fear is “am I qualified to teach?” some of breaking down this boundary is a mindset, but some of it is just as simple as answering the right questions.

How do you know if you’re qualified?

This breaks down pretty simply. Have you gotten results for yourself or someone else on the topic you want to teach? You shouldn’t be teaching a course about how to train dogs when you’ve never done it. But what exactly are results? They can be something that

>Makes them money

>Brings them joy

>Makes life easier

>Speeds up a desired outcome

There are tons of room in those categories for you to find where you’re qualified. You may be saying, but Claire, other people teach the same topic; how can I be as capable as them? Listen closely…more than one person can teach on the same subject! Everyone has a different spin and can see possible gaps other don’t.

What topics are best for success?

I touched on this a little on the last note, but it’s vital you teach about something you’re not only knowledgeable about but also passionate about.

Having a passion for your course topic will shine through when you’re selling and teaching your course. And not only that, but it will also keep you going. If you choose to create a course on a topic you’re knowledgeable about but couldn’t care less about; you won’t want to keep teaching that for possibly years to come.

Of course, as time passes, your topics can evolve into a whole new category but having a combo of passion and knowledge is the key to success.

I started Creation to Launch because I had launched successful online courses but also because I saw how it completely changed my business trajectory. Having an online course means no matter where you are in the world and whatever is thrown at you, you have a way to make revenue, all while helping others. It’s a magic sweet spot.

Have you positioned yourself as the expert?

This is critical. If you don’t let potential students know why they should learn from you, they won’t buy your course. Let’s go back to the dog example; if all I talk about is cats and then say, here is my course about dogs, people would raise eyebrows.

You are a creative person with valuable content to share, so SHARE it. Talk about your course niche. Do it on social media, your blog or your newsletter. Show the world why you are the expert they need. You know in your heart you’re qualified; you just have to show it.
